政府化驗所提供廣泛的分析、調查和諮詢服務，為其他政府政策局及部門在法治、公眾衞生及安全、環境保護、政府稅收和消費者權益等各方面的工作，提供支援。 政府化驗所年報 2023. 計量學是一門研究測量以及其應用的科學。 而化學計量是計量學其中一個分支，主要研究化學測量的可比較性和溯源性，以確保測量數據的可靠性。 這方面對於建立全球測試數據的互認提供一個必須的技術基礎，利於國際間商貿和監管活動。 實驗室能力驗證計劃能有效地評估實驗室的檢測能力。 能力驗證計劃兼具監察和督導雙重功能：一方面檢定參加實驗室的測試能力，另一方面則協助參加實驗室找出問題和相應改善方法。 政府化驗所致力於促進與檢測同業、專業機構及其他部門的合作，持續發展計量科學及本地的檢測科技。

政府化驗所提供廣泛的分析、調查和諮詢服務，為香港特區政府決策局及相關部門在法治、食品安全、公眾衞生、環境保護和消費者權益等各方面的工作，提供支援。 政府化驗所是香港歷史最悠久的政府部門之一，歷史可追溯至1879年，而第一位藥劑及化驗師的聘任距今已超過140年。 政府化驗所由政府化驗師領導，員工編制約有510人，其中三分之一是不同檢測科學領域的專業職系人員。 政府化驗所在1992年12月遷入九龍何文田政府合署。 除何文田總部外，化驗所亦有數個衛星實驗室。 政府化驗所擁有先進的儀器設施，力求在實驗室安全、保安體系、質量管理和廢料處理等方面達致先進水平。 政府化驗所的工作是由政府化驗師負責管理，內部按著不同工作性質劃分為兩個事務部： 每個事務部均由一位助理政府化驗師負責。
